Commissions API

Get all commissions and reductions by EAN per single EAN: Retrieves the commission details for a specific product identified by its individual EAN.
Get all commissions and reductions by EAN in bulk: Get all commissions and reductions in bulk by EAN: Provides commission details for multiple products collectively, identified by their respective EANs in a bulk request.

The Bol Plaza platform employs a commission model for each transaction, where the commission is a combination of a fixed amount and a variable percentage of the selling price. The exact commission rate is dependent on the product category and the sale price. Bol Plaza offers commission endpoints to assist sellers in accurately determining and calculating the appropriate commissions for their products.

Sellers can use these endpoints to identify the applicable commission for each European Article Number (EAN). This is done by providing the selling price and, optionally, the product condition. The service is available for individual and bulk requests, with the latter allowing up to 100 EANs in a single submission.

Commission amounts are calculated based on the product price range, as commission rates vary by selling price. The API returns the total commission amount applicable to the order line.

VAT treatment

The VAT applied to the commission depends on the seller’s place of establishment:

Sellers established in the Netherlands

A 21% VAT rate applies to the commission. This VAT is included in the commission amount and shown on the sales invoice.

Sellers established in another EU country (e.g. Belgium)

The commission is charged without VAT, provided a valid foreign VAT number is registered with bol. The commission must be declared in the seller’s own VAT return under the VAT reverse‑charge mechanism.

Sellers established outside the EU

The commission is charged without VAT. Sellers are responsible for determining whether local VAT rules apply.

Reductions

In addition to the basic commission calculation, the Bol Plaza commission endpoints also provide information on any reductions in commission fees applicable to certain EANs. The 'Reductions' element in the response indicates the thresholds for activating these reductions for each EAN. This feature allows sellers to adjust their pricing strategies to potentially qualify for lower commissions. It’s important to note that the 'Reductions' element is always included in the response but will only contain information if the EANs qualify for a commission reduction. If there are no qualifying EANs, the reductions list will be empty.

While the Reductions element will always be returned, it will only contain information if EANs in the list qualify for a commission reduction; otherwise the list will be empty.

In case a product is sold with a deposit, such as soda cans or bottles, then the commission is charged on the selling price excluding the deposit.
